兵貴神速

一把牌大約十多巡結束，因此快的話，在第4~5巡可能就有人聽牌了，你必須快速判斷要不要玩? 是要玩而且是衝到底，或是要玩但在安全地帶游走，抑或是乾脆打黃。

考慮太久對己不利，要玩又不玩，留一堆危險牌在手上，不打又不能聽，聽了又怕放槍，實在很傷腦筋。打黃並不可恥，可恥的是你可以不輸卻輸了。
先把危險牌打掉，且戰且走，也是不錯的策略。
若是牌不錯或是進張順利，就秉持兵貴神速的原則，向前衝吧!

看穿你的牌

                       “我已看穿了你的牌”

除了賭~~~聖，沒有人可以看穿你的牌，但我們卻可以靠著人的習性和推理，猜測對方的牌，進而達到看穿的境界。

一般人拿到牌開始整理，不外是由小排到大，由左至右或由右至左，排排站好，一目了然。
典型的是這樣：
”1122萬 3445筒 7899索 東東 北中”16張牌

當有人丟2萬，你喊碰，很開心地將兩張2萬拿起來，在別人的眼中，你的牌缺一口，右邊孤孤單單站了兩張，那麼不是兩張一萬，會是什麼呢?
別人如果存心打黃，還會把一萬丟出來嗎?
這，就是看穿。

有的人說，可是我一定要整理好牌，才會打，不像有的人可以不用整理，難道就要束手就擒嗎?
當然不，
我們可以掩護。

將牌放成這樣：

基本掩護你的牌，當然你也可以隨自己喜歡，將牌稍微移一下位置，不那麼死板版就好了。

當有人丟4筒，你要吃的時候，將35筒拿起，很明顯你中間還有兩張站著，這也容易被發現，原來你已有兩張4筒，以後若有類似牌型，一起手整理的時候，就可以先棑成這樣：
        或是    
達到掩護的目的。

就是讓對方猜不透你~

How to play Taiwanese Mahjong

有的外國朋友想學麻將，我覺得很不錯，邊學麻將還能學中文，一舉兩得，於是寫了一些簡單的基本規則，我的英文不是很好，如果有不通順或不懂的地方，請留言給我，我再修改，謝謝囉~

You have to know the number 1~9 in Chinese.
一 [ yi ] means 1
二 [ er ] 2
三 [ san ] 3
四 [ si ] 4
五 [ wu ] 5
六 [ liu ]6
七 [ qi ] 7
八 [ ba ] 8
九 [ jiu ] 9

There are 3 suits, each has tiles numbered from 1 to 9：
萬 [ wan ] ten thousand


餅 [ bing ] cookie/ barrel/ circle


索 [ suo ] strip/ bamboo

(4 tiles of each unmber.)


風牌 [ feng pai ] wind tiles：
東風 [ dong feng ] east wind

南風 [ nan feng ] south wind

西風 [ xi feng ] west wind

北風 [ bei feng ] north wind

(the suit of 4 winds, 4 of each wind.)


紅中 [ hong zhong ] red center

發財 [ fa cai ] getting rich

白板 [ bai ban ] white board

(the suit of zhong fa bai, 4 of each.)

花 [ hua ] 4 flowers and 4 seasons

(only 1 of each.)

The complete Mahjong tile set consists of 144 tiles of which 136 are regular playing tiles and 8 are bonus tiles (Flowers and Seasons). The bonus tiles are optional.


Rules：

1.roll dice, for dealer and starting point.

2.shuffle tiles, arrange in a square set of 4 double rows of 17 tiles each. select tiles 4 at a time until each person has 16. the dealer gets one more, the extra being his/her first for play or discard(face up).

3.discarded tiles may only be picked up at time of discard.

4.build suits(1-2-3, 5-6-7, etc) or 3 of a kind(not 4).

5.if you draw a 4th of a kind by yourself, you get a 槓 [ gang ] and have a free draw from the tile end.

6.remembering you can't go out unless you also have one additional set of 2-of-a-kind.(called a 麻將 [ majiang ] or eyes)

7.if your pre-player discards a tile you need to make a suit, you may 吃 [ ji ] (eat) that piece.(show the suit)

8.if any player discards a tile you need to make 3-of-a-kind, you may 碰 [ peng ] (bump into) that piece.(show the run)

9.碰 [ peng ] takes precedence over 吃 [ ji ].

10.you are 聽 [ ting ] if you need one piece to win, and you get it however it appears.

11.you are 胡 [ hu ] when you win.(all suits, runs and 1 麻將 [ majiang ] ),

Playing Taiwanese Mahjong and learning Chinese：

牌 [ pai ] : tiles

槓 [ gang ] :4 of a kind.(get a free draw from back of tile)

吃 [ ji ] eat :take from your pre-player only to make a suit of 3.(must show)

碰 [ peng ] bump into:take from anyone's discard to make 3 of a kind.(must show)

放炮 [ fang pao ] : winning by getting your piece from an opponent.

自摸 [ zi mo ] :winning by drawing your own winning tile.

聽 [ ting ] :one move away from winning.

胡 [ hu ] : I won!
